Safe Patient Handling & Movement Risk Assessment

Has your SPHM program stalled, run out of steam, or lost momentum?

Are you just starting out and don't know what, or how much, equipment to purchase?

Do you have equipment, but staff aren't using it?

Visioning HealthCare’s 360 degree risk assessment provides a valuable tool for any organization to use as part of building a new safe patient handling and movement (SPHM) program or reigniting an existing one. The assessment includes the

  • Identification of the barriers and facilitators that will help or hinder the change to a SPHM culture, and
  • Identification of environmental and patient handling risks that influence the type, location, and quantity of SPHM equipment required.

This vendor neutral risk assessment consists of 4 key phases:

  1. Pre-site data collection
  2. On site stakeholder and environmental assessment
  3. Data and gap analysis
  4. Report and recommendations

The detailed report provides a clear path for an organization to take in achieving their safe patient handling goals, as well as a detailed analysis at facility and unit level of SPHM challenges combined with suggested solutions.

In order to maximize the success and sustainability of the SPHM program, the risk assessment also

  • Provides a baseline evaluation that can be used to measure the impact of the interventions made at various stages during the implementation process;
  • Ensures that suggested equipment purchases are based on identified risks and the needs of individual patient groups to maximize compliance of use; and
  • Engages shareholders in the process of change in order to increase support for the program at clinical level.

Visioning HealthCare is also able to offer the option for the SPHM Facility Coordinator to be awarded contact hours for each of the four stages of the risk assessment process at no extra financial cost. These contact hours can be used to demonstrate competency in conducting a SPHM risk assessment as well as for general professional relicensure.
