Visioning HealthCare offers a wide range of workshops that can be integrated into your safe patient handling program at various stages of its implementation. These include:

Safe Patient Handling and Movement ‘Lunch and Learn’: Provides an overview of the evidence underpinning the need for the adoption of a SPHM culture, discusses some of the myths associated with SPHM and provides a general overview of the commitment required throughout the whole organization to make it work. Suitable for all levels of staff within the organization as an introduction to the subject of SPHM and as part of your programs launch. (1 Contact Hour)

Integrating Safe Patient Handling & Movement into your Magnet program: Provides an ideal way to introduce the benefits of safe patient handling & movement (SPHM) to senior executives, directors, middle management, shared governance councils, and risk/safety officers. The presentation demonstrates how SPHM intertwines with the five components of the Magnet model, the impact it can have on several of the NDNQI benchmarks, and how it can be used as evidence in your initial submission or re-accreditation process as a Magnet facility (1.5 Contact Hour).

The Role of the Unit/Nurse Manager in SPHM: Specifically directed at Unit/Nurse Managers and Directors , this workshop discusses the evidence underpinning safe patient handling, the benefit it has for clinical staff, patient outcomes, their budgets and themselves. It also examines the facilitators and barriers commonly identified by this group in supporting the change at facility and unit level. (2.5 Contact Hours)

Getting Started/Restarted with Safe Patient Handling and Movement: Provides SPHM Facility Champions, committee members, risk managers, safety officers, human resource managers, nurse managers, directors and administrators with a blueprint of the steps required to establish a successful and sustainable SPHM program. It is also suitable for organizations that are seeking to re-ignite an existing program that has stalled or has been in place for a few years. (6 Contact Hours)

The Role of the SPHM Unit Lift Champion/Peer Leader: Provides all the information and tools required for a unit lift champion/peer leader to get started  and includes the role of the SPHM Unit Leader, different types of SPHM equipment, using algorithms in clinical practice, and assessing the competency of clinical staff  in their unit. (6 Contact Hours)

The SPHM Unit Leader: Making a Difference: Managing the Change: Provides the unit lift champion/peer leader with the tools to empower them to promote change at the unit level, includes practical coaching and teaching skills for competency assessment and clinical support, techniques for managing resistance to change, and advice on how to have that difficult conversation with a colleague in order to increase utilization of equipment. (6 Contact Hours)

All workshops can be tailored to meet the individual needs of your facility. Prior to the workshop being delivered a Visioning Healthcare consultant will contact you to discuss the content and any changes that need to be made to maximize its impact for your facility. The workshops are delivered on-site and participants may attend from one or more hospitals of the same group/VISN.
